Press Release
"Rotterdam Takes Taxi Driver Security
Seriously"
London, UK, February 12, 2003 - Raywood Communications,
the pioneer of in-vehicle digital, security cameras for the taxi
industry, today announced that Rotterdam Taxi Centrale NV (RTC)
will deploy Raywood SnapShot® cameras to their fleet of 400
cabs.
"We want to make sure that taxi drivers in Holland are
protected and that their work environment is as safe as possible.
We applaud the initiative of Rotterdam Taxi Centrale" commented
Mr Hans van Schaik, Secretary General of KNV Taxi.
In the past 12 months one RTC driver has been killed and another
permanently disabled and unable to work. "We take driver
safety very seriously" said Mr de Winter, Chairman of Rotterdam
Taxi Centrale. "For our drivers, installing cameras is like
having an insurance policy. You hope that you'll never need it,
but if you do, the images need to be of a high quality so that they
can be used in court" said Mr de Winter from RTC. "The
images from the Raywood camera were the best we'd seen in both day
and night driving conditions" continued Mr de Winter.
Raywood cameras are a proven deterrent that helps reduce attacks
on drivers. "Since the introduction of cameras in Australia
there has been a 60% reduction in attacks against drivers and a
reduction in the number of fare evaders" said Steve Watt
CEO of Raywood Communications. "RTC is taking a pro-active
approach to protect their drivers and the privacy of the customers
who use RTC taxis" continued Mr Watt.
Privacy concerns are often raised in discussions about taxi security
cameras. With the Raywood camera, the images are encrypted to ensure
that only authorised personnel can view them. Plus, the images can
only be downloaded with the proprietary software that is included
with the camera. In normal circumstances, the storage unit simply
records over the oldest images, once it has reached its capacity.
Raywood SnapShot is the choice of camera for over 14,000 taxi drivers
worldwide. With superior image quality, Raywood cameras are a proven
deterrent that helps reduce attacks on drivers and petty fare-evaders.
The images from Raywood cameras have been successfully used as evidence
in court proceedings, delivering peace of mind so drivers can stay
on the road night and day.
