Press Release
Cameras proving a valuable aid to taxi
driver safety.
Melbourne, June 4th 2001
Raywood Communications today announced that with the receipt of
an order for a further 800 cameras from the Greater Houston Transportation
Company, total sales worldwide now exceeded 10,000 units.
Raywood's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Graeme Taylor said, "From
a concept, through to the initial design, manufacture, update, enhancement
and customisation, to now the 10,000th camera sold in just four
years."
"Starting in Perth, Western Australia, taxi industries around
the world are embracing this technology as a proven driver safety
system. Raywood SnapShot® cameras are now installed in 6 Australian
States and Territories, in over 10 States in the USA, three provinces
in Canada, and also in France, Turkey and the UK to name a few.
And it won't stop there. Raywood Snapshot® cameras are on trial
in over 20 new cities and every month another city seems to adopt
this technology and legislate for its use."
Research indicates that in the 30 months to the end of May, 2001,
some 145 taxi driver killings have been reported in newspapers worldwide
- a rate of over one murder per week.
But with many jurisdictions reporting over 65% reduction in reported
driver assaults after the installation of cameras, this technology
is proving a significant contributor to taxi driver safety.
Raywood are proud to be involved with a product that will help reduce
this appalling statistic.
